You know what really bugs me? That Land Rover made what I think is a really good looking vehicle in the LR2, so badly.
I like the tall greenhouse and mini rangie looks. I think its one of the better looking vehicles they’ve made since the D3. The Ford turbo 4 isn’t a bad engine at all and the Volvo 3.2 I6 is just such a cool engine for this size of vehicle, but they are just made so poorly as to be impossible to justify owning.
Its much larger replacement isn’t nearly as cool looking
and probably no more reliable. The thing that bugs me most about the Disco Sport (Aside form obvious fashion over function design)? They aren’t pursuing a 2 speed 4 wheel drive when a system that would fit right in already exists and would offer no substantial penalties.
I guess Im just more upset that the only vehicle on the market that uses a real off road 4wd system in the compact segment is the Cherokee KL. These vehicles could be so much more.
For that matter, put the 2 speed system in the renegade and make it the pseudo XJ replacement you got close to making jeep!

Even in the 2014-2016 LR4s it only came standard with a single speed, and getting the two speed was a very rare option. There might be 20 for sale in the country with the option ticked. Really too bad the distance LR has fallen in the past few year in terms of off road ability.

Now I want an early Freelander with body kit again.
Love the blue metallic and body colour bumpers.

really? Its not hard to find LR4's with the dual range here. Maybe not as easy as it could be but they are out there. Still that they offered it single speed as a joke. What could it have possibly saved them to have to make 2 different versions.

Glad to know I’m not the only fan of the Freelander 2's looks, even if it’s no longer a 3 door and a convertible.

Im a big fan of small suv’s that are scaled down versions of their good looking older kin.
They may not be GOOD cars, but they look the part.

Although you can never go wrong with a proper boxy SUV, I love it when they get the combination of boxy SUV styling with more modern curves. The Freelander 2 and Grand Cherokee are pretty much the perfect examples of that.
For whatever reason a Holden grille makes it look so much better.
These types of vehicles also tend to be semi ancient, but their facelifts still keep them fresh and modern, which is a testament to how well aged their designs are?
Call me crazy, but when I see these in person, I genuinely cant stop staring at how good it looks, which kinda worries me. Shame that I can never tell the new one from a Qashqai. In fact what is it with the trend of automakers turning their super cool boxy SUVs into curvier sleeker designs, but their size means they have the grace of a whale, like the Pathfinder or new Land Rovers. The main reason people buy SUV’s is because of how their looks, and the public clearly love their Wranglers and G-Classes, so what gives?

It was standard on the 2010-13 models, but not on the 14+. We just got a 2013 for off road duties and it has performed very well. On the forums some guys wives got a single speed and the husband took it off road and it was pretty much stuck the whole time. We have a deposit on a 2012 to replace her Suburban, so hopefully that will be coming soon.

When the box look gets ditched because aero then you know that LR is both broken and extremely aware of its target market...

You’re confusing the Free Lander 1 with the LR2/Free Lander2, essentially two completely different vehicles. When you compare it to other compact SUV’s (x3 ect...) it’s actually on the better side of the reliability spectrum.

One of McGovern’s more recent egregious mistakes was not including a 2 speed T-case in the LR2. Man that thing would be a mountain goat if it had low range.
Edit: Fun story, my Uncle replaced his Parado with a LR2 after the Parado ate it’s turbo for a 2nd time and he had to eat some crow for all those years he made fun of my dads Landie as the LR2 hasn’t given him any issues over these last 3 years.
